GLOBAL TERRORISM: IMPACT ON SINGAPORE Experts from Israel & Singapore to Share Best Practices in Security & Anti-Terrorism

Temasek Polytechnic’s Security Industry Institute is organising the Security Industry Conference 2017 (SIC) and Security Industry Masterclass 2017, in conjunction with the 16th Safety and Security Asia (SSA) 2017, to be held on 5 & 6 October, respectively, at Conference Room 2, Hall B & C, of Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

SIC 2017 is one of the largest annual security conferences held in Singapore with a gathering of more than 600 registrantsfor a day of top-level exchanges and sharing amongst security industry professionals and security agencies. Co-locating with the SSA 2017, the two events promise to showcase the very best of state-of-the-art smart security solutions, with eminent exhibitors from the high-tech security sector, bringing together both local and international security professionals.

Themed “Global Terrorism: Impact on Singapore”, SIC 2017 will feature keynote speeches by prominent overseas and local security specialists. Mr Yaniv Peretz from Israel, is a highly skilled security professional with over 19 years of experience in the industry. He has designed various training programmes as well as served as an adviser to many critical infrastructures in South East Asia, USA, Canada and Europe. A programme director of Certified Counter Terrorism Practitioner (CCTP), a credential programme which provides the demonstrable proof of knowledge and expertise in terrorism prevention, and the Founder and Operational Director of The Counter Terrorist Magazine – Asia Pacific Edition, where he shares his insights and best practices for the security industry, Mr Peretz will be speaking on the topic, “Growing Global Terrorist Threats”.

Dr. Graham Gerard Ong-Webb, is a Research Fellow, at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), NTU. He is attached to the International Political Economy Programme within the University and Military Studies Programme at the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies. He also teaches Command and Staff (CSC) courses at the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute on security policy and military strategy. His main research interests include security issues and the political economy of the Asia Pacific; and Singapore’s national security strategy and national resilience initiatives against the threat of global terrorism. Dr Ong-Webb will speak about “Training to Counter Terrorism”.

The opening day of SIC will also see the presentation of the SkillsFuture Study Award for the Private Security Sector. Five individuals will receive this award which not only aims to encourage skills upgrading, but also helps employers to upskill their local employees, thereby strengthening their talent pool, enhancing business performance and improving staff retention.

The  Guest-of-Honourfor SIC 2017 is Mr Patrick Tay, Chairman, Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Manpower, Member of Parliament, West Coast GRC & Assistant Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).

The Security Industry Masterclass 2017 featuring local security expertswill take place on Friday, 6 October from 9am to 4pm at the same venue.
